Stairwells and elevator shafts often become smoke-logged during a fire, blocking evacuation routes and preventing rescue operations. Thor Duct® Smoke Extract addresses this challenge by efficiently exhausting smoke, helping to keep these vital areas clear. The inclusion of insulation in the ductwork is crucial, as it prevents the risk of flashover—a rapid fire spread caused by the heat and energy produced by the fire. Tested in accordance with EN1366-8:2004 standards, the insulation ensures that the system can effectively manage smoke and hot gases, maintaining temperatures below critical levels to prevent flashover.

Thor Duct® Kitchen Extract
A.C. Manufacturing is proud to be a licensed manufacturer of Thor Duct® Kitchen Extract, a vital solution for fire safety in commercial kitchens. Kitchen extract systems pose a unique fire risk due to the presence of grease, a highly combustible contaminant. When kitchen extract ducts pass through multiple fire compartments, they are at risk of exposure to fires in those compartments, which can ignite the grease inside the ductwork and cause the fire to spread rapidly.
Thor Duct® Kitchen Extract addresses this critical safety concern by complying with the latest EN1366-1 requirements. The system is designed to delay a temperature rise to 180°C inside the ductwork, which is the flashpoint of oxidized grease. This is achieved through the use of a calcium magnesium silicate blanket insulation that has been rigorously tested and proven to maintain duct temperatures below 180°C, preventing the ignition of grease and the subsequent spread of fire.
The comprehensive testing of Thor Duct® Kitchen Extract includes examinations under “Type A” fire conditions, with surface-mounted thermocouples inside the ductwork. These tests ensure that the ductwork can maintain temperatures below 180°C on any one thermocouple, or below 140°C as a mean average of all thermocouples, as per EN1363-1 fire curve standards. This testing and compliance are evidenced by detailed test reports and classification to the standard EN13501-3.
In addition to the ductwork itself, Thor Duct® Cleaning Doors, which are tested to EN1366-1, are a critical component for maintaining the safety and functionality of kitchen extract systems. These doors should be installed every 2 linear meters and are essential for enabling routine cleaning by specialist contractors, thereby ensuring that grease buildup is effectively managed and fire risks are minimized.

Thor Duct® Fire Ductwork
A.C. Manufacturing is a licensed manufacturer of Thor Duct® Fire Ductwork, a premier solution for fire safety in HVAC systems. Thor Duct® Fire Ductwork is designed to meet the stringent requirements of fire safety regulations, ensuring the highest levels of protection and performance.
Thor Duct® Fire Ductwork is suitable for applications requiring Integrity (E) for up to 120 minutes. For Insulation (I) requirements, Thor Duct® provides protection for periods of up to 120 minutes using a tested insulation package. This makes Thor Duct® ideal for pressurisation systems and situations where fire dampers are not a viable option, maintaining the compartmentation rating that fire dampers would otherwise provide.
Tested to EN1366-1 for both horizontal and vertical applications, Thor Duct® Fire Ductwork is classified under EN13501-3 and the product standard prEN15871. Additionally, it has been tested under EN15882-1, allowing for duct sizes up to 2500x1250 mm. These rigorous tests ensure that Thor Duct® Fire Ductwork meets all current regulations and is the most suitable choice for fire resisting ductwork.
Thor Duct® Fire Ductwork maintains both the Integrity (E) and Insulation (I) performance of a fire compartment barrier, making it suitable for use in protected lobbies and escape routes, as specified by BS9999:2017. This non-coated system is versatile and can be installed in multi-compartment and single-compartment settings, including stud walls, solid walls, and aerated concrete floors.
